This piece depicts a raga played by Debvashish Bhuttacharaya and expresses the subtle beauty of his playing and the warm heartbeat of the tabula drum.
A raga is a classical Indian music melodic mode. Debashish Bhuttacharaya is a well-known Indian slide guitarist. I chose this work because I was intrigued with the challenge to find a way to express a more subtle and quiet piece of music.
Perpetual Motion explores the use of line and color to create rhythm and convey the sense of constant movement in a static image. For each work I select a track of music that I play in a constant loop throughout the painting process. This allows me to get swept into the music so that I can use its rhythm and melodies to help orchestrate the painting's composition.
